Principal of Dumais Interiors, Kevin Dumais and his husband, Charlie, bought and refurbished a three-bedroom clapboard house in rural Connecticut. Major cosmetic renovations to the home include a completely remodeled kitchen and the installation of ebony-stained oak flooring throughout.

The owners made this weekend house their own with mid-century furnishings, fresh white walls, and a range of inviting textures—turning a humble 1940s Cape into a fine example of updated country chic in the process.

An array of vintage furniture occupies the living room, including a Børge Mogensen two-seater sofa, a chrome and rosewood coffee table, and a Drexel sofa, all sourced from The Elephant's Trunk and Brimfield Flea markets. To complement the texture and color of these characterful pieces, the walls were kept white and the original floors ebonized.

The intention was to work in the office. But, as is often the case with creative endeavors, thinking is best done on a soft surface, so a pair of Baker chairs and a Danish teak daybed with a ticking stripe mattress and vintage fabrics were installed.

Austere but cozy was the idea for the Guest bedroom, so the palette was kept rigorously neutral. Interest was created through texture, pillows in shearling and Batik print, bedding in percale cotton and washed linen, and warm wood accents through a tufted wool and oak stool (used as an additional bedside table) and Shaker-style coat hooks.
