Principal of Dumais Interiors, Kevin Dumais and his husband, Charlie, bought and refurbished a three-bedroom clapboard house in rural Connecticut. Major cosmetic renovations to the home include a completely remodeled kitchen and the installation of ebony-stained oak flooring throughout.

The owners made this weekend house their own with mid-century furnishings, fresh white walls, and a range of inviting textures—turning a humble 1940s Cape into a fine example of updated country chic in the process.

An array of vintage furniture occupies the living room, including xxx, xxx, and xxxx, sourced from xxx, xxx and xxx. To complement the texture and color of these characterful pieces, the walls were kept white and the original floors ebonized.

The intention was to do work in the office. But, as is often the case with creative endeavors, thinking is best done on a soft surface, so a pair of xxx chairs and a xxx daybed with xxx covers were installed.

Austere but cozy was the idea for the bedroom, so the palette was kept rigorously neutral. Interest was created through texture, cushions in xxx and xxx, bedding in xxx, and warm wood accents through a xxx stool (used as a bedside table) and Shaker-style coat hooks.
